When you're George Clooney, even the priciest L.A. mansions just won't do.

The movie star, 53, and his new bride, 36-year-old Amal Alamuddin, have purchased the Mill House, a 17th-century British estate located about 40 miles outside London in the village of Sonning on a four-acre island on the River Thames. The couple closed on the property — roughly an hour from the estate filmed for TV's Downton Abbey — just nine days after their wedding, according to the New York Daily News, and spent their honeymoon there.

The nine-bedroom, eight-bathroom abode was listed for a whopping $16 million last year, but to be fair, that price includes a whole lot of luxury living for Clooney and his lawyer wife. Inside, the two can enjoy features such as marble floors, wood fireplaces, crystal chandeliers, as well as a library, a steam room, and a gym. The dining room seats 20, which means Clooney and Alamuddin can easily accommodate their many actor and politician friends at dinner parties.

The grounds of the Mill House are even more impressive. There's a 2,000-square-foot guest cottage, a boathouse with a covered dock, a greenhouse, a pavilion, and a charming wood bridge over a stream, all among lush landscaping. We're sure Clooney, who's used to relaxing at his luxe vacation villa on Italy's Lake Como, will feel right at home!

Still, Clooney managed to pry himself away from his new estate on Thursday to make a surprise appearance at New York's Comic-Con in support of his 2015 movie Tomorrowland.
"It is not lost on me that I am spending my honeymoon at Comic-Con," he said, adding that it was his first time at the convention.
"I think since my Batman I was disinvited to Comic-Con for 20 years," Clooney joked of his turn as the caped crusader in the critically panned 1997 flick, Batman & Robin. "I met [the original TV Batman] Adam West back there and I said, 'Hey I'm really sorry.'"
Lost's Damon Lindelof, the producer and writer behind Tomorrowland, said Clooney was more than willing to leave his English digs for the sake of the film.
"We knew that Comic-Con was so close to his honeymoon, so we didn't think he'd do it, but he said, 'How could I help?' Which was awesome," Lindelof added.
